Summer Camp FAQs

What are the camp hours? Camp runs Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

How can I stay informed about camp activities? The camp schedule is updated regularly throughout the summer as new field experiences and guest speakers are confirmed. Families should check the camp registration page for the most current schedule and program information. Camp FAQs and important updates will also be emailed to registered families weekly.

What should my student bring? Students should bring a bag lunch in a sealable bag or money to purchase lunch, a water bottle, and any personal items they may need during the day.

How do students travel to field trips? Students travel by Metro and on foot under staff supervision. All transportation costs are covered by the Institute.

What happens if my student arrives late? Students should arrive by 9:00 a.m. to avoid missing field trip departures. Once the group has departed, late arrivals may not be able to join the day's activities. Call (703) 539-2011

What are the emergency procedures? Staff carry emergency contact information and will contact parents or guardians in the event of an illness, injury, emergency, or significant schedule change.

What happens if there is bad weather? Camp operates rain or shine. Activities may be adjusted based on guidance from the National Weather Service, Arlington County, host sites, or public safety officials. In the event of severe weather, families will be notified of any schedule or location changes.

Where are drop-off and pick-up? Drop-off and pick-up take place at the Quincy Park Shelter, located at the corner of Washington Boulevard and North Nelson Street, between Arlington Central Library and the playground. Camp staff will be stationed at the shelter to assist with check-in and dismissal.

What should my student wear? Students should wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Camp shirts are distributed on Mondays and daily wear is encouraged for safety and identification.

Can my student attend multiple weeks? Yes. Students may register for multiple weeks based on availability. Camp shirts are distributed each Monday for students attending that week's program.

Is the camp partisan or political? No. The America 250 Civics Summer Camp is a nonpartisan educational program focused on civic learning, leadership development, American history, and community engagement.
