Our Programs
At Youth Democracy Institute (YDI), we are building a civic leadership pipeline that spans from upper elementary school through early adulthood. Our three signature programs equip young people with the tools, training, and confidence to participate actively in civic life and contribute to their communities.
Each program is aligned with educational standards and grounded in experiential learning—designed to meet youth where they are and help them grow into informed, engaged citizens. Whether through school-based partnerships, churches, or out-of-school time programs, YDI delivers high-impact, youth-centered leadership development that promotes civic knowledge, public service, and community engagement.

NextGen Leadership Academy (ages 10-13)
Students explore the principles of U.S. history, democracy, and civic leadership through enrichment activities aligned with Virginia social studies standards. They gain confidence, curiosity, and an early sense of civic responsibility.

Emerging Leaders Academy
(ages 14-18)
High school students build civic leadership skills, earn community service hours, and explore public service while preparing to lead student government, community projects, and advisory roles like our Youth Advisory Council.

YDI Policy Academy
(ages 19-24)
Through this seasonal fellowship, young adults explore public policy, civic organizing, and leadership—engaging in workshops, peer learning, and real-world projects that prepare them for community boards or public service.
